Jordan rewards the traveller who walks. Ancient paths, quiet wadis and sandstone valleys bring its landscapes close, while local guiding connects them with the communities who call this country home.
A stay at Feynan, two nights beside Petra and a panoramic Wadi Rum camp experience balance active days with personal care. Follow trails through varied landscapes, enjoy local hospitality and finish beside the Dead Sea. The full Petra back-trail is demanding; a shorter guided option can be arranged.

DAY 01
The Hills of Amman, Your First Jordanian Welcome
Queen Alia International Airport → Amman
Amman
Your journey begins with a personal Midasia Routes welcome at Queen Alia International Airport. Our representative coordinates arrival assistance and your private transfer, while your driver takes care of the luggage. Settle into your selected hotel, refresh after the flight and meet the guide who will help bring the country into focus over the coming days.
For guests arriving early enough, begin with a gentle introduction to Amman. The Citadel provides a broad view over the capital’s hills; below, a short walk through the old downtown reveals small shops, neighbourhood cafés and the everyday rhythm of the city. Your guide introduces the people and stories behind the places, leaving time to stop rather than rushing between monuments. If your flight arrives late, the afternoon touring is omitted and the welcome remains unhurried.
Over a welcoming Jordanian dinner, discuss the walking ahead, your preferred pace and any dietary requirements. Tomorrow carries you south, from mosaic towns and mountain viewpoints into the quieter landscapes of Dana Biosphere Reserve.
Overnight: Amman Walking & pace: Up to 1–2 hours · Easy · Arrival-dependent
DAY 02
Mosaics, Mountain Horizons & a Candlelit Retreat
Amman → Madaba → Mount Nebo → Feynan
Mount Nebo Mosaics
After breakfast, leave Amman with your private guide and driver. Madaba introduces a different scale of discovery: patterns, colours and craftsmanship preserved in its celebrated mosaic heritage. Continue to Mount Nebo for its religious associations, surviving mosaics and wide views towards the Jordan Valley. These are focused visits, leaving enough daylight for the journey to your remote lodge.
Pause for lunch before continuing towards Feynan. At the roadhead, change to the locally operated vehicle suited to the final rough track; your main luggage travels with the transfer. The arrival is part of the experience as the paved road gives way to open country and the landscape becomes the centre of attention.
Settle into your en-suite eco-lodge room. If arrival and daylight allow, join a short guided walk to a nearby sunset viewpoint; otherwise enjoy the changing light from the lodge. Dinner is a locally inspired vegetarian meal. Candlelit surroundings and the quiet of the valley mark the beginning of two nights devoted to walking and local encounters.
Overnight: Feynan · Dana Biosphere Reserve Walking & pace: Around 1–2 hours in short sections · Easy
DAY 03
Following Water into the Wadi
Feynan → Wadi Ghuweir sampler walk → Feynan
Wadi Ghuweir
Begin after breakfast with a private local walking guide. Today explores the lower Wadi Ghuweir area on an out-and-back route from Feynan, giving you time to notice the changing terrain instead of pushing towards a distant finish. Carry a small daypack; your main luggage remains at the lodge.
The walk brings the landscape close: gravel underfoot, plants growing beside the watercourse and rocky slopes framing the valley. Your guide selects a comfortable turning point, with pauses for photographs, water and explanation. Some sections may involve wet feet or ankles. This is the shorter sampler experience, not the full canyon crossing from Mansoura. If rain or local conditions prevent entry, a suitable dry-land walk replaces it.
Return for lunch and time to freshen up. Later, a pre-arranged Bedouin-hosted coffee or bread-making encounter offers an introduction to local hospitality; the participating hosts and activity are confirmed for your dates. After dinner, enjoy the lodge’s evening atmosphere and, when the sky and schedule allow, a guided look at the stars.
Overnight: Feynan · Dana Biosphere Reserve Walking & pace: Approximately 3–4 hours · Easy to moderate · Uneven riverbed
DAY 04
Bedouin Stories & the Road to the Rose-Red City
Feynan → Wadi Araba road → Petra / Wadi Musa
Feynan
The morning belongs to Feynan before you move on. Take a short guided walk near the lodge, chosen to complement yesterday’s experience. It might focus on the surrounding landscape or traces of past settlement. Keep the pace gentle and leave space for conversation with your guide about the relationship between the valley, its resources and the families living here.
After breakfast and the morning activity, the local transfer returns you to your private road vehicle. Continue towards Petra with a planned lunch stop and opportunities to stretch your legs. Your bags are transferred throughout, so you are free to enjoy the changing scenery without managing the practical details.
Arrive in Wadi Musa and settle into your selected hotel for two nights. The rest of the afternoon gives you time to prepare for tomorrow’s longer walk. Your guide checks footwear, water and the route with you, and explains the difference between the approach to the Monastery and the additional distance needed to leave the archaeological park. Dinner is arranged before an early night.
Overnight: Petra / Wadi Musa Walking & pace: Approximately 1–2 hours · Easy
DAY 05
The Ancient Approach to Petra
Little Petra → Monastery back trail → Petra main site
The Monastery, Petra
Start early, carrying only what you need for the day. A private transfer takes you towards Little Petra, where your walking guide introduces the caravan landscape beyond the main entrance. From here, follow the authorised back trail towards Ad Deir, the Monastery, through a succession of rocky paths, open viewpoints and stepped sections.
Allow time to absorb the scale of the Monastery rather than treating its arrival as a quick photograph. A packed lunch and regular breaks support the walk. The published route from Little Petra to the Monastery is approximately seven kilometres; continuing through Petra and out of the main entrance adds a substantial further distance. This is the most demanding day of the programme, with uneven surfaces, ascents and descents.
Continue down towards the main archaeological area as your guide connects the monuments with the city’s trade, water supply and daily life. Pass selected central sites before walking towards the Treasury and through the Siq to the exit. Your vehicle is ready for the short transfer to the hotel. The detailed route is adjusted to current access and your walking ability; dinner and a comfortable room await.
Overnight: Petra / Wadi Musa Walking & pace: Full day, roughly 6–8 hours with visits and breaks · Moderate to challenging
DAY 06
A Final Petra Morning, a Desert Evening
Petra → Wadi Rum
Wadi Rum
A second visit gives Petra the time it deserves. Return early for a focused look at the Treasury, the Siq or sections of the main site that received less attention yesterday. There is no need to repeat the full Monastery hike. Your guide chooses a manageable morning, balancing your interests with the energy needed for the next chapter.
After lunch, travel south to Wadi Rum, where the journey changes from carved stone to open desert. Meet the local Bedouin team and continue in a locally operated desert 4×4. Short walks and carefully chosen stops introduce the sandstone formations and the scale of the landscape without turning the afternoon into another strenuous trek.
Reach your selected camp in time to settle into a private tent with an en-suite bathroom. A sunset walk follows a route appropriate to the day’s light and conditions. Return for dinner and an evening under the desert sky. Your main luggage is delivered with the vehicle transfers; you carry a daypack only while walking.
Overnight: Wadi Rum · Selected tented camp Walking & pace: Around 2–3 hours at Petra; short sunset walk · Moderate
DAY 07
Desert Footsteps to the Edge of the Dead Sea
Wadi Rum → Dead Sea
Wadi Rum Sandstone Trails
Make the most of the cooler morning with a guided desert walk. The route links open sandy sections with sandstone viewpoints, and a local 4×4 connects the selected walking areas where needed. Your Bedouin guide chooses the itinerary to suit your confidence on the terrain. No technical climbing or exposed rock-bridge crossing is required.
After an early lunch, leave Wadi Rum for the Dead Sea. This is a substantial road transfer, so the remainder of the day is deliberately kept straightforward. Water, refreshments and comfort stops are planned along the way. The private vehicle brings you directly to your selected hotel, where you can shower, change and enjoy the view across the water.
Time permitting, experience the Dead Sea through the hotel’s designated access and facilities. This is a gentle closing chapter after the walking, rather than a separate beach holiday. Gather for a farewell dinner and reflect on the week’s contrasts: Amman’s hills, Feynan’s hospitality, Petra’s paths and the desert’s extraordinary silence.
Overnight: Dead Sea Walking & pace: Approximately 2–3 hours · Moderate on sand and uneven ground
DAY 08
One Last View, One Last Jordanian Welcome
Dead Sea → Queen Alia International Airport
The Dead Sea
Enjoy breakfast overlooking the final landscape of your journey. Your Midasia Routes team coordinates the hotel departure around your confirmed flight, allowing the appropriate airport check-in time and a sensible road buffer. There is no compulsory sightseeing today and no long desert drive before the flight.
Your driver assists with the luggage and transfers you privately to Queen Alia International Airport. Departure assistance is arranged within the areas permitted by airport regulations. For an early flight, breakfast arrangements are coordinated with the hotel in advance; for a later departure, the use of a room beyond the standard check-out time can be arranged separately if required.
The journey ends with the same personal attention with which it began: practical details handled, the route clearly organised and time spent understanding Jordan through its landscapes and people. Seven nights, eight days, and a country experienced at walking pace.
Overnight: Departure Walking & pace: No scheduled hike

When to travel
The right season. Your pace.
March–April and October–November are preferred for this walking programme. Most walks can be paced moderately, but the full Petra back-trail involves several hours, steps and uneven terrain. Canyon walks run only when local conditions allow; alternative routes are agreed when necessary.
Walking durations are planning estimates. Your guide adapts the route to conditions and your comfort; local festivals, performances and host-led experiences are arranged only when available for the confirmed dates.
