From Bishkek to the Fergana region and the Chon-Alai mountains
THE JOURNEY
A closer connection to the place.
Discover Kyrgyzstan through a changing sequence of mountain passes, reservoir shores, river valleys and southern towns. The route travels overland from Bishkek to Osh and the Chon-Alai region before returning north by air.
Cultural visits and market walks sit alongside a horseback outing and conversations with local hosts. Hotels are balanced with family-run stays, creating a journey whose value comes from variety and access to local life rather than a uniform resort experience.

Your complete 8-day journey
DAY 01
Bishkek, the Opening Chapter
Meet your Midasia Routes representative at Bishkek airport and transfer to your hotel before beginning the capital's introduction. Explore Central Square and the city's principal cultural landmarks, including the Philharmonic House with its Manas monument, Lenin's statue, the National Historical Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts. These stops bring together different chapters of Kyrgyz public life, with your guide providing context as you move between them. The day balances arrival arrangements with a first look at the country. Dinner is arranged at a restaurant near your hotel before the overnight in Bishkek.

DAY 02
Across the Passes to Toktogul
Set out for Toktogul on an approximately four-and-a-half-hour drive through some of the journey's most varied scenery. The route crosses the Töö-Ashuu and Ala-Bel passes, with pauses to photograph Suusamyr Valley and meet Kyrgyz nomads along the way. Lunch in Chichkan Gorge breaks the travelling day before you continue towards the reservoir. Allow the changing landscape to be the main event, from high pasture to the broad water below. Tonight, family-run accommodation offers a personal introduction to local hospitality, with a simpler setting than the capital's hotels.

DAY 03
Following the Naryn into the Fergana Region
Leave Toktogul and follow the Naryn River towards Jalal-Abad, a journey of around four and a half hours. The road links yesterday's mountain scenery with a busier town and a different rhythm of everyday life. After arrival, explore the market, where Kyrgyz and Uzbek shops reveal the region's overlapping cultural connections through the goods on display and conversations around you. There is time to browse for small purchases without making shopping the purpose of the day. Dinner at a local restaurant is followed by an overnight at your Jalal-Abad hotel.

DAY 04
Uzgen's Brickwork and the Sacred Hill of Osh
Continue to Osh, allowing approximately two hours of driving with visits along the way. At Uzgen, explore the tower and mausoleums associated with the Karakhanid period, then spend time in the town's market. These stops give the route a cultural focus before arrival in one of Kyrgyzstan's major urban centres. After lunch in Osh, discover the city's sights and the hilltop pilgrimage place known as Solomon's Throne. Your guide distinguishes local traditions from historical evidence as the city unfolds below. Finish with restaurant dining and an overnight in Osh.
OVERNIGHT · Osh

DAY 05
Over Chigirchik and Taldyk to Sary-Tash
Turn towards the mountains again on the approximately three-hour drive to Sary-Tash. Chigirchik and Taldyk passes bring successive changes in the landscape, so the journey includes opportunities to stop for photographs and lunch rather than treating the road as a simple transfer. Reaching the village gives you a closer view of life in this high-country setting. Tonight's family-run accommodation is deliberately modest, with the welcome and setting providing its character. Spend the evening settling in and talking with your hosts, helped by your guide, before tomorrow's outing into Chon-Alai.
OVERNIGHT · Sary-Tash
Sary-Tash and the Alay highlands
DAY 06
On Horseback in the Chon-Alai Valley
After breakfast, head into the spacious Chon-Alai mountain valley for a horseback outing. This is the principal active experience of the southern circuit, bringing you into the landscape at a slower rhythm than the road journey allows. A picnic in a meadow provides a natural pause, with time to take in the scale of the surrounding terrain. Your guide coordinates the outing with local arrangements and prevailing conditions. Later, return to Osh for the evening, exchanging the intimacy of last night's family accommodation for your hotel base in the city.
OVERNIGHT · Osh

DAY 07
A Flight North and a Final Kyrgyz Evening
Fly from Osh back to Bishkek this morning, bringing the southern exploration to a close without repeating the long overland route. After arrival, use the available time to revisit the capital or include sights missed on the first day. Your guide can shape this final introduction around what has interested you most during the journey. At dinner, a traditional folklore programme can be arranged as an optional experience rather than a guaranteed performance. Spend your last night in a Bishkek hotel, with the airport transfer planned around tomorrow's international departure.

DAY 08
Departure from Bishkek
The journey ends with your transfer to Bishkek airport for the flight home or your next destination. There is no additional excursion scheduled, allowing departure arrangements to take priority and keeping the final day uncomplicated. Your Midasia Routes team confirms the collection time with your flight schedule and assists with the hotel departure. Over the past week, the route has connected civic landmarks, reservoir landscapes, markets, sacred heritage and high mountain villages. Today offers a quiet conclusion to that changing sequence as you leave Kyrgyzstan with your own impressions of its north and south.

WHEN TO TRAVEL
Choose the right time for your journey.
Recommended months: June–early September; favour June or early September to reduce lowland heat
Typical daytime temperatures: Bishkek approximately 26–30°C in June/September; high Alai settlements much cooler
Typical night temperatures: Bishkek approximately 11–16°C; high mountain nights can approach freezing
June–early September is the best practical season for the mountain roads and Alai Valley activities. June or early September helps reduce lowland heat: Bishkek’s typical daytime highs are around 26–30°C, with nights near 11–16°C. Osh can feel hotter, while Sary-Tash and the high Alai Valley are much colder, including chilly nights. July–August improves high-country access but increases city heat. Pack for two climates, and allow flexibility around mountain weather and road conditions.
Temperatures are approximate seasonal averages, not a forecast. Final dates, access and local arrangements are confirmed before booking.
