A private journey through landscapes, living traditions and remarkable places
THE JOURNEY
A closer connection to the place.
Explore Kyrgyzstan through a carefully paced sequence of cultural encounters and changing landscapes. The journey preserves the complete route of the selected programme, with time for both its celebrated places and the smaller experiences that give each day its character.
Midasia Routes brings personal coordination to the journey, combining hotel stays with the distinctive local accommodation required by the route. Mountain guesthouses and yurts offer character and a close connection to their surroundings; they are not presented as city-style luxury hotels.

DAY 01
Bishkek | A Capital Beneath the Mountains
Arrive in Bishkek, where your Midasia Routes representative welcomes you and accompanies your transfer to the hotel. Your introduction to the capital connects Central Square with the Philharmonic House and its Manas monument, followed by the Lenin statue, National Historical Museum and Museum of Fine Arts. These contrasting stops bring together the country’s national identity, artistic traditions and Soviet inheritance. There is time to settle into your room before an evening at the Supara ethnic complex, where dinner provides a first encounter with Kyrgyz flavours and hospitality.

DAY 02
Bishkek to Chunkurchak | Threads of Tradition
Spend the morning meeting the people who keep Kyrgyz textile traditions alive. Visit felt artist Aidai Asangulova, continue to Tumar Studio, and, after lunch, discover the weaving work of Gulmira Akmatova, founder of Kyrgyz Oimo. Look closely at the differences between felt, silk and woven cloth, and at the way traditional skills find contemporary expression. An approximately one-hour drive then carries you out of Bishkek into Chunkurchak. Settle into your mountain accommodation as the urban avenues give way to open pastures, running water and distant summits.

DAY 03
Chunkurchak | A Day in the High Pastures
Wake in Chunkurchak with an entire day devoted to the mountain landscape. A walk follows the meadows and streams, allowing frequent pauses to enjoy the changing views rather than treating the outing as a race. Horse riding offers another way to experience the valley for those who prefer it. The day can also be quieter, with time for contemplation and simple enjoyment of the surroundings. Return to the same accommodation this evening, keeping luggage unpacked and leaving the day’s attention firmly on the high pasture known locally as a jailoo.

DAY 04
Across the Passes | The Road to Kyzyl-Oi
Enjoy the morning in Chunkurchak and have lunch before beginning the approximately four-hour journey towards Kyzyl-Oi. The road passes through Kara-Balta Gorge and a mountain tunnel before opening into the broad Suusamyr Valley. Stop where practical to photograph the changing terrain and livestock, with opportunities to meet pastoral families along the way. This is a day to appreciate the scale of the countryside through the vehicle window and at roadside pauses. In Kyzyl-Oi, a family-run guesthouse and a dinner of local food introduce a more intimate, rural setting.

DAY 05
Kyzyl-Oi to Song-Kul | Beside the Mountain Lake
Leave the village for Song-Kul, allowing approximately four and a half hours for the mountain journey. On arrival, the lake and surrounding grasslands become your base for two nights. Walking or horse riding provides an introduction to the open country; a swim is an option for those comfortable with the conditions. Meet nomadic residents and learn about everyday tasks such as milking cows, joining in only when welcomed. Tonight’s traditional yurt stay is an essential part of the experience, bringing you closer to the rhythms of life in the pastures.
OVERNIGHT · Song-Kul Lake
DAY 06
Song-Kul | Water, Wildlife and Nomadic Life
Remain at Song-Kul today, with time to experience the lake from several perspectives. Choose walking or horse riding, look for migratory birds, and visit the grazing areas where yak herds may be encountered. The programme also includes opportunities to meet fishermen and take a boat onto the water when conditions permit. A demonstration or match of Ulak Tartish introduces the skill of local horsemen, subject to arrangements on the day. Return to your yurt for a second evening, without the interruption of packing and moving to a new destination.

DAY 07
Kochkor to Chon-Kemin | The Craft and the Country
Travel towards Kochkor after breakfast and explore its felt handicraft shops. This stop connects the landscapes of the past few days with the practical and decorative objects made by local artisans. After lunch in a local restaurant, continue past Orto-Tokoi Reservoir and through Boom Gorge towards Chon-Kemin Valley, with roughly three hours on the onward road. Water, rock and cultivated country create a different visual rhythm from Song-Kul’s open uplands. Dinner and an overnight stay at a guesthouse complete the day, with mountain views framing your arrival in the valley.
OVERNIGHT · Chon-Kemin Valley

DAY 08
Chon-Kemin to Bishkek | Trails and a Silk Road Tower
Begin with two to three hours of walking or horse riding in Chon-Kemin National Park. Rivers and mountain slopes provide a final outdoor experience before lunch at the Ashu guesthouse restaurant. Afterwards, return towards Bishkek, a drive of approximately two and a half hours excluding stops. Pause at Burana Tower, a surviving monument associated with the historic city of Balasagun, before completing the journey to the capital. Check into your hotel and gather for a farewell dinner, bringing together memories of artisans, village hospitality and the high country.

DAY 09
Departure | Farewell to Kyrgyzstan
Your journey concludes in Bishkek today. After breakfast and check-out, your Midasia Routes team coordinates the transfer to the international airport for your onward flight. Keep travel documents and any items needed during the flight accessible while the remaining luggage is prepared for departure. The morning is reserved for a comfortable departure rather than additional sightseeing, with timing arranged around your confirmed flight. You leave with a varied introduction to Kyrgyzstan, from its capital and creative workshops to family guesthouses, mountain pastures and two nights beside Song-Kul.
