Dragon trees, limestone caves and luminous lagoons
THE JOURNEY
A closer connection to the place.
Discover Socotra through daily journeys from Hadibo, exploring an island whose plants and landforms give each outing a distinct character. Mountain paths lead to natural pools, limestone caves open above the coast, and broad dunes descend towards the sea. The programme balances walking and scenic drives with opportunities to swim, snorkel and travel by small local boat.
This eight-day journey includes seven nights at a hotel in Hadibo and flights between Jeddah and Socotra. It does not add pre- or post-tour nights in Jeddah. Accommodation on the island is straightforward; the richness comes from the landscapes, specialist local knowledge and access to contrasting corners of Socotra.

Your complete 8-day journey
DAY 01
First Light on the Island
Fly from Jeddah to Socotra, meet the local team and transfer to Summerland Hotel in Hadibo for a short rest. After lunch, travel to Delisha, passing the seaport and Khoor Sarheen with time to look for coastal birds along the way. Enjoy the clear water at the beach, then continue to the nearby dunes for a walk and evening views. The first outing introduces Socotra through its coast rather than a long mountain drive. Return to the hotel for dinner and the first of seven island nights.

DAY 02
Homhil’s Pools and Dihamri’s Reef
Travel to Homhil for a guided walk among dragon’s blood trees, bottle trees and desert roses. The trail leads to a spring-fed pool with broad views towards the coast, offering a chance to swim when conditions permit. After a picnic lunch, continue to Dihamri Marine Reserve, where red rocky headlands frame the water. Swimming and snorkelling provide a different perspective on the island’s biodiversity, complementing the morning’s mountain vegetation. Return to Hadibo for dinner and an evening at your hotel after a varied day outdoors.

DAY 03
Inside Hoq Cave, Beyond the Dunes
Drive towards Hoq Cave and walk uphill with a local guide, pausing to appreciate the coastline below. Carry a head torch for the cave visit, where the guided exploration follows the passage among limestone formations for about two hours. Descend for lunch, then continue to Ras Ersel at the eastern end of Socotra. On the return journey, stop at Arher to walk beside or climb the large white dunes. This is an active day with uneven ground and sand underfoot before returning to the hotel in Hadibo.

DAY 04
The Southern Coast and Digub Cave
Set out across the mountains on the old road to Nuged, then continue to Wadi Difaro for a picnic beside the stream. Visit a nearby village and look for the island’s distinctive bottle trees before travelling to the shifting dunes of Zahaq. There is time to walk, photograph the sand patterns or simply enjoy the coastal setting. Continue to Omak’s white beach and protected area, then visit Digub Cave, whose open entrance offers a shaded pause. Return across the island to Hadibo for dinner and overnight.

DAY 05
The Dragon Trees of Diksam
Leave early for the Diksam Plateau, where dragon’s blood trees rise above an open landscape of ridges and valleys. Visit a village associated with traditional resin gathering, learning about the trees’ local significance without disturbing them. Continue into Wadi Derhur for a picnic lunch and spend the afternoon exploring the landscapes and dragon-tree stands around Fermhin. The day moves between elevated viewpoints and the valley floor, making the changing scale of the island especially apparent. Return to your hotel in Hadibo for dinner and a quiet evening.

DAY 06
Shuab by Boat and Detwah Lagoon
Travel early to the fishing coast and board local skiffs for Shuab Beach, looking for dolphins without expecting guaranteed sightings. Return towards Qalansiyah for a picnic around Detwah Lagoon. The programme also includes old coastal tanks, a panoramic lagoon viewpoint, Khoor Ghaba and the nearby saltpans, where traditional salt gathering continues. Local conditions determine the boat journey and any opportunity to try fishing. Give the afternoon to the changing colours of the shore and lagoon before the drive back to Hadibo, where dinner and your hotel await.

DAY 07
Wadi Ayhaft and Island Craft
Visit Wadi Ayhaft for a day of walking, observation and photography among the valley’s vegetation. Take time to notice differences in the plants and terrain compared with the coastal dunes and elevated dragon-tree landscapes visited earlier. After a picnic lunch, return towards town to visit a women’s organisation selling Socotri handicrafts, followed by time in the markets. Purchases are optional, and the encounter adds a local craft dimension to the natural history programme. Return to the hotel for your final dinner and overnight stay on Socotra.

DAY 08
Across the Sea to Jeddah
After breakfast, transfer from Hadibo to Socotra airport for the flight to Jeddah. The journey finishes with this connection, so no additional hotel night or sightseeing in Saudi Arabia is included in these eight days. Flight arrangements should be reconfirmed before fixing onward travel, as the island depends on a limited air service. Leave with memories of distinct environments encountered from a single base: mountain pools, cave passages, southern beaches and the dragon-tree plateau. The departure transfer completes your scheduled services on the island.

WHEN TO TRAVEL
Choose the right time for your journey.
Recommended months: January–March; January–February is coolest
Typical daytime temperatures: Approximately 27–32°C on the coast
Typical night temperatures: Approximately 20–24°C on the coast; cooler on inland plateaus
January–March is an excellent window, with January and February offering the gentlest temperatures. Expect daytime conditions around 27–32°C and nights near 20–24°C along the coast; inland plateaus and camps can be cooler. February and March are attractive for desert-rose flowers and outdoor exploration. October–December is also possible, with greener landscapes but a greater chance of showers or rougher seas. Avoid June–September for this touring programme because strong monsoon winds disrupt coastal activities.
Temperatures are approximate seasonal averages, not a forecast. Final dates, access and local arrangements are confirmed before booking.
