India's great icons, placed inside a deeper story.
This is a definitive first journey through North India, but it is not a hurried list of monuments. Five carefully chosen bases allow travellers to understand the country's contrasts: Old Delhi's compressed history, Agra's Mughal refinement, Jaipur's royal geometry, Udaipur's lakes and artistic traditions, and Varanasi's profound relationship with the Ganges.
The route is designed for private travel and can be calibrated around age, mobility, interests and preferred pace. Important sites are visited at thoughtful times, longer days are balanced by restorative space, and local specialists add context without overwhelming the experience. There are no token stops and no unnecessary changes merely to make the itinerary appear fuller.
Designed for the curious traveler who wants comfort, context and
meaningful access—not merely a checklist of monuments.

Day by Day
Fourteen days, privately revealed.
A thoughtfully paced journey through Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur and Varanasi. Private guides bring context to the great sites, with time for craft, cuisine, local encounters and rest.
01
A private welcome to India
On arrival in Delhi, a Midasia Routes representative meets the guests at the airport and assists with the arrival process wherever airport regulations allow. Luggage is handled and the private vehicle is waiting with water and light refreshments. The first transfer is intentionally uncomplicated: no sightseeing is added after a long international flight. After check-in, the remainder of the day is reserved for rest, an unhurried meal and adjustment to the local time.
Before leaving, the representative reviews the next day's pace, dietary preferences and any mobility considerations with the guests. This first conversation is important; it allows the operating team to fine-tune timings from the beginning rather than forcing travellers into a fixed schedule. Those arriving early may choose a gentle neighbourhood orientation or remain entirely at leisure.

Old Delhi—from imperial mosque to community kitchen
Begin early in Shahjahanabad, the walled Mughal city. With a private guide, approach Jama Masjid before the surrounding lanes reach their busiest rhythm, then continue by cycle rickshaw and on foot through Chandni Chowk. The route is adapted to the guests: spice merchants, wedding markets, old mansions and specialist food lanes can be explored in depth without attempting to see everything at once.
A respectful visit to a Sikh gurdwara reveals another side of Delhi. Guests may observe the extraordinary community kitchen, where volunteers prepare meals on a vast scale. After lunch, return for a proper pause. Late afternoon is devoted to Humayun's Tomb and its formal gardens, when the light softens the red sandstone. The day closes with a carefully selected dinner that introduces regional Indian flavours without becoming an overlong culinary performance.

Empires, architecture and contemporary India
Today's route moves across Delhi's many centuries without turning the day into a race. Begin at Qutub Minar, where early arrival allows time to study the first great monuments of the Delhi Sultanate. Continue through the broad avenues of New Delhi, with privately guided context around the capital's twentieth-century plan, India Gate and the ceremonial axis.
After lunch, choose between two strands according to interest. Art and design travellers may meet a curator, craft specialist or contemporary gallerist; history-focused guests can continue to a museum collection or a less-visited architectural quarter. A gentle walk through Lodhi Garden provides breathing space before dinner. The programme deliberately avoids adding another major monument late in the day. Instead, the guide brings together the stories of the Sultanate, Mughals, British capital and modern republic, creating a clear foundation for the journey ahead.

Along the imperial road to Agra
Depart Delhi after breakfast in the private vehicle for Agra, a journey of approximately four hours depending on city traffic. The drive is treated as a comfortable transition rather than a sightseeing marathon. A refreshment stop is planned, and lunch is arranged after arrival.
Later, explore Agra Fort with a private guide. Its sequence of defensive walls, audience halls and more intimate palaces introduces the Mughal court and gives important context before the Taj Mahal. The visit is paced slowly, with time to study the views across the Yamuna River. As the day cools, cross to the river garden at Mehtab Bagh or another carefully chosen viewpoint for the changing evening light on the Taj. Returning to Agra for a second night on the following day prevents the familiar rush of arriving, seeing the monument and immediately packing again.

The Taj Mahal—and the human artistry behind it
Visit the Taj Mahal in the soft morning light, with the timing selected according to season and opening regulations. The guide goes beyond the familiar love story to explain proportion, garden symbolism, calligraphy, stone carving and the organisation of the Mughal atelier. There is no pressure to move quickly; time is allowed to walk the river terrace, observe details and experience the building from changing angles.
Return for breakfast and a quiet late morning. In the afternoon, meet specialist artisans who continue Agra's tradition of stone inlay. The encounter is arranged as an explanation of technique and family knowledge, not a compulsory shopping stop. Depending on personal interest, the remaining time may include the delicate tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah, a riverside neighbourhood walk or additional rest. Dinner is relaxed, allowing the emotional high point of the morning to remain the centre of the day.

Fatehpur Sikri and the road into Rajasthan
Leave Agra after breakfast and stop at Fatehpur Sikri, Emperor Akbar's extraordinary sixteenth-century capital. Its palaces, courtyards and audience spaces are especially rewarding when interpreted as an experiment in empire, faith and architecture rather than as an isolated ruin. The visit is followed by lunch before continuing into Rajasthan.
The full journey to Jaipur takes approximately five to six hours excluding the cultural stop and lunch. The private vehicle remains stocked with water and refreshments, and the guide manages the day's rhythm so it does not feel like continuous road travel. Arrive in Jaipur in the late afternoon or early evening. No formal sightseeing is scheduled after check-in. Guests may enjoy a quiet dinner and settle into the city, which becomes the base for the next three nights.

Amber, astronomy and the royal city
Begin at Amber Fort before the main heat of the day. Ascend by private vehicle, avoiding animal rides, and explore the gateways, mirrored chambers, gardens and defensive landscape with an expert guide. Nearby, pause at a historic stepwell or another quieter architectural site before returning toward Jaipur.
After lunch and rest, enter the planned Pink City. The City Palace introduces Jaipur's royal history and living traditions, while Jantar Mantar reveals the scientific ambition behind the eighteenth-century capital. The day is completed on foot through selected bazaar lanes, focusing on textiles, metalwork, jewellery or everyday commerce according to interest. Rather than rushing between shops, the guide explains how the old city's occupational quarters still function. Dinner may be arranged in an elegant private setting or a restaurant chosen for excellent regional cooking and calm service.

A slower Jaipur—craft, cuisine and personal choice
This day is intentionally more personal. Begin with a guided heritage walk through residential lanes, temples, flower markets and traditional food stalls while the city wakes. Continue to a respected textile or block-printing atelier, where artisans explain design, carving, natural pigments and the relationship between regional cloth and identity. Participation can be arranged for guests who enjoy working with their hands.
After lunch, the afternoon offers a genuine choice rather than more compulsory touring. Wildlife enthusiasts may take a privately arranged safari in the leopard reserve on Jaipur's edge; others may prefer a spa treatment, additional time with a jewellery specialist, or complete leisure. In the evening, a cooking demonstration or hosted meal can be considered where a suitable local arrangement is available. The emphasis is on conversation and hospitality, not a staged performance.

Across Rajasthan to the city of lakes
Travel privately from Jaipur to Udaipur, approximately six to seven hours excluding stops. This is the longest overland transition of the journey, but it avoids another airport sequence and provides a revealing passage through Rajasthan's changing countryside. The departure is timed after an early breakfast, with a comfortable refreshment pause and a good lunch arranged en route.
The vehicle and chauffeur remain dedicated to the guests, allowing breaks whenever needed. The guide uses selected moments—not constant commentary—to explain agriculture, water, settlement patterns and the transition toward the Aravalli hills. Arrive in Udaipur by late afternoon. The remainder of the day is left quiet: enjoy the view, take a short lakeside stroll if energy allows, and dine without a formal evening programme. Three nights here make the long transfer worthwhile.

Palace architecture, miniature painting and Lake Pichola
Explore Udaipur's great palace complex with a private guide, moving through courtyards, balconies, painted rooms and lake-facing terraces. The visit is scheduled with enough time to understand how successive rulers expanded the complex while adapting architecture to a steep ridge and a water-conscious landscape.
Continue on foot through selected lanes of the old city, pausing at a miniature-painting workshop where a knowledgeable artist can explain materials, brushwork and courtly themes. After lunch, return for rest. In the late afternoon, take a private boat on Lake Pichola, timed for the gentler light when the city, hills and waterfront palaces create one of India's most beautiful urban landscapes. Dinner follows at a carefully selected venue with an emphasis on attentive service and atmosphere rather than spectacle.

The Aravalli countryside and living sacred traditions
Move beyond the lakefront for a day in the Aravalli landscape. The precise route is chosen for the season and guests' interests, combining temple architecture, rural scenery and small-scale local encounters without intruding on village life. A privately guided visit may include the important Shaivite temple tradition at Eklingji and the early remains at Nagda, followed by a countryside lunch.
A gentle village or farm walk can be included for those who wish to understand regional agriculture, water systems and everyday rhythms. More active travellers may extend the walk, while others return to Udaipur earlier for leisure. This flexible structure is deliberate: after ten days of rich cultural touring, guests should not be asked to absorb another full catalogue of sites. The evening is free for a quiet dinner or a special private arrangement designed around the travelling party.

From Rajasthan's lakes to the sacred Ganges
After breakfast, transfer privately to the airport for the scheduled flight journey to Varanasi. Routing and departure time will be selected around the final travel date, using the most practical available connection and avoiding unnecessary surface travel. Airport assistance, check-in support and arrival reception are coordinated by the Midasia Routes team.
In Varanasi, transfer directly to the accommodation and allow time to settle. If the flight schedule permits, approach the river in the evening by private boat to witness the Ganga Aarti from a respectful position on the water. The guide explains the ritual before it begins so guests can experience the ceremony without continuous commentary. When air timings make the evening too compressed, this river experience is placed elsewhere in the Varanasi programme rather than rushed.

Dawn on the Ganges, the old city and Sarnath
Before sunrise, return to the Ganges by private boat. The city is observed gradually: pilgrims bathing, priests conducting rituals, laundry activity, cremation ghats viewed with appropriate distance, and the sandstone riverfront changing colour with the first light. Disembark for a carefully guided walk through the old lanes, adapting the route to mobility and crowd conditions.
After breakfast and rest, drive to Sarnath, where the Buddha is traditionally believed to have delivered his first sermon. Archaeological remains, sacred spaces and museum collections place Varanasi within a wider religious landscape. Later, meet a silk-weaving specialist or visit a working atelier to understand the labour behind Banarasi textiles, without a compulsory purchase. The final dinner is reflective and intimate, bringing together the journey's threads of empire, faith, craft and daily life.

A carefully managed journey home
Breakfast is arranged according to the onward schedule. A Midasia Routes representative accompanies the private transfer to Varanasi airport and assists with check-in for the flight to Delhi. The domestic connection and international departure will be planned together when final air tickets are known, allowing the most sensible transfer time and baggage arrangement.
Guests whose international flight departs later may keep the morning at leisure or include a final short experience, depending on airport reporting time. If the international schedule requires a Delhi night, it is added during personal planning rather than hidden inside an impractical connection. The private journey concludes with the same attention with which it began: named local contacts, active flight monitoring and assistance through the final Indian airport stage.
