Sri Lanka Together

12 days · 11 nightsPrivately guided
The Journey

A private family journey.

Sri Lanka gives families a rare combination of ancient stories, manageable adventure, wildlife and warm-water coast. This privately paced route limits long sightseeing lists and creates time to climb, cycle, cook, ride the hill railway, search for elephants and enjoy the beach together. Activities can be adapted for children, grandparents and multigenerational groups.

A dedicated private vehicle carries child seats, refreshments and day bags as required. Midasia selects spacious premium accommodation, family-sensible meal times and guides who engage different ages without lecturing. Wildlife encounters are kept ethical: no elephant riding, bathing or forced handling is included.

Your Journey, Day by Day

12 days.
A world of discovery.

Follow the journey from its personal welcome to the final farewell. Each day has its own character, with the route, visits and practical rhythm brought together below.

01

The Family Holiday Begins Gently

A Midasia representative meets the family at the airport, assists with every bag and escorts everyone on the short private transfer to a relaxing first-night retreat. Child seats and refreshments are prepared in advance. There is no formal sightseeing: enjoy the pool, lagoon or an early meal. Later, the guide speaks with both adults and younger travelers about what excites them, building flexibility into the days ahead. Overnight near Negombo.

02

Countryside Discovery on the Way Inland

Travel toward the Cultural Triangle in a spacious private vehicle, breaking the journey at a market, garden or easy wildlife stop selected for the family’s energy. Arrive for three nights, unpack and enjoy the pool. Near sunset, take a short village or lakeside walk with the guide, spotting birds and learning how rice grows. The pace leaves children curious rather than exhausted. Overnight in the Cultural Triangle.

03

The Adventure of Sigiriya

Reach Sigiriya early and turn the ascent into a story of kings, gardens and hidden frescoes. Families may climb to the summit, stop at Lion’s Paw or explore the water gardens, with no pressure to keep one pace. After lunch and a long hotel break, join a private cooking experience where children can grind spices, shape hoppers or prepare coconut sambol with local hosts. Overnight in the Cultural Triangle.

04

Cycle Through an Ancient Capital

Explore Polonnaruwa by properly fitted bicycles and helmets, with a support vehicle close by; younger children or non-cyclists can ride comfortably between sites. The guide makes palaces, moonstones and giant Buddha images understandable without a classroom lecture. Later, take a responsible private jeep safari in the park offering the best current elephant movement. No riding, bathing or captive handling is included. Overnight in the Cultural Triangle.

05

Painted Caves and the Hill Capital

Visit selected Dambulla caves at a pace suited to the family, using stories and visual details to animate the art. Continue to Kandy for two nights with a relaxed lunch en route. Walk beside the lake and enter the Temple of the Tooth with guidance on respectful clothing and behavior. A shorter cultural performance may be added if it suits the children’s ages and attention. Overnight in Kandy.

06

Gardens, Crafts and Time to Play

Spend the morning in the Royal Botanical Gardens, combining giant trees, palms and open lawns with a gentle guided treasure hunt. Visit a genuine craft workshop or join an age-appropriate drum or dance introduction when available. The afternoon is deliberately free for pool time, rest or a short walk. Families wanting more activity can add a private food trail through the city. Overnight in Kandy.

07

A Train Ride into the Tea Hills

Board the scenic hill-country railway in confirmed reserved seating while the chauffeur takes the luggage by road. The guide helps with snacks, stations and boarding, and a private vehicle remains the fallback if operations change. Rejoin the driver and settle for two nights in a highland retreat with family space, views and gardens. Enjoy a warm early dinner after the journey. Overnight in tea country.

08

Tea Trails for Every Generation

Take an easy estate walk, adapting distance for children and grandparents. Visit a working factory when operating and use smell, touch and tasting to make the tea story engaging. Adults can enjoy a formal tasting while younger guests try a garden or nature activity. The afternoon is free for a longer guided walk, lawn games, spa or simply watching clouds move across the hills. Overnight in tea country.

09

From the Highlands to the Sea

Drive south with well-timed comfort stops, an interesting lunch and activities in the vehicle for younger travelers. Arrive for four nights at a premium coastal retreat and leave the afternoon free for the beach and pool. The guide explains sea conditions and safe swimming areas; the hotel setting is selected around the season rather than assuming every coast is ideal year-round. Overnight on the south coast.

10

Mangroves, Cinnamon and Family Cooking

Choose a gentle kayak or boat outing through mangroves, with life jackets and conditions checked, then visit a cinnamon garden or join a second hands-on food experience. The route brings children close to birds, plants and everyday rural life without a long transfer. Return for a relaxed afternoon at the resort. The chauffeur and guide remain available for those preferring Galle’s shops or cafés. Overnight on the south coast.

11

Galle Fort and a Celebration by the Ocean

Explore Galle Fort through a family-friendly walking story of ships, ramparts, merchants and lighthouses. Allow time for an ice cream, small galleries and views of the surf rather than an overlong history lesson. The rest of the day belongs to the family—beach, pool, spa or a private photography session. Gather for a special farewell dinner beside the Indian Ocean. Overnight on the south coast.

12

Home with Stories Shared Together

After breakfast, receive luggage assistance and travel privately to Colombo airport. Timing includes realistic traffic allowance, refreshments and a comfort stop if required. Midasia supports departure formalities as locally permitted. The family leaves with shared stories of rock fortresses, elephants, tea trains, cooking, mangroves and the ocean—memories created together, at a pace that belonged to them.

Journey Planning

Travel with the season.

December to March is the preferred family-travel window for this route, bringing the most reliable beach weather on the south coast and comfortable conditions in Kandy and the tea hills. January and February are particularly suitable for multigenerational travel. July and August work well for school holidays if the beach stay is selected carefully around regional weather.

The character of your journey

Private guiding and thoughtfully coordinated travel bring the route together. Accommodation and services follow the arrangements agreed for your departure.
