Journey details
Comfort, dress, luggage and connectivity
Luggage
Cabin storage is finite, so soft-sided luggage is strongly preferred. Midasia can arrange separate handling for larger cases during private pre- and post-train stays.
Dress
Smart-casual clothing is suitable onboard. Comfortable walking shoes, sun protection and seasonal layers are needed for excursions; elegant casual wear suits special dinners.
Electricity and connectivity
Cabins provide electrical sockets and onboard communication facilities. Wi-Fi and mobile reception depend on network coverage and may be intermittent while moving.
Mobility
Narrow corridors, steps, train movement and uneven heritage sites require reasonable mobility. Individual requirements must be discussed before cabin confirmation.
Health and safety
The train carries an onboard paramedic and follows operator security procedures. Guests should carry prescribed medicines and comprehensive travel insurance.
Pre- and post-journey
At least one night in Mumbai before embarkation and one night in Delhi after arrival are recommended. Midasia can extend the journey privately anywhere in India.

What discerning travelers should know
Included by the train
En-suite accommodation, meals, soft drinks, house-brand wines, beer and spirits, butler service, scheduled guided excursions with entrance fees, still-camera fees, applicable transport, tea, coffee, mineral water and station porterage, subject to final operator terms.
Soft-sided luggage is easiest because cabin storage is limited. Smart-casual clothing suits onboard dining; comfortable walking shoes and seasonal layers are essential for excursions.
Mobility and health
Steps, narrow corridors, train movement and uneven monument surfaces require reasonable mobility. The train is not designed for wheelchair-bound travelers; special requirements must be discussed before booking.
Day by Day
7 days, thoughtfully arranged.
Follow the journey day by day, with context, considered pacing and personal care throughout. Onboard programmes and shared excursions are operated by the confirmed rail or cruise company.
01
Ceremonial Welcome and Departure
Meet the Midasia team at your pre-journey hotel for luggage coordination and private transfer to the official check-in venue. After registration and welcome formalities, board the Maharajas’ Express and settle into your reserved cabin or suite with assistance from the carriage butler. Lunch and dinner are served onboard as the train begins its journey toward Rajasthan. An additional pre-night in Mumbai is strongly recommended.
JourneyMumbai → Udaipur
02
Palaces Beside Lake Pichola
Arrive in Udaipur for the programmed off-train exploration. The day ordinarily features the City Palace complex and a boat experience on Lake Pichola, subject to operating conditions, followed by leisure or optional activities as published for the selected departure. Return to the train for evening hospitality and dinner. Suite-category transport arrangements are reconfirmed against the final operator documents.
JourneyUdaipur
03
The Blue City and Mehrangarh
Travel into Jodhpur for a guided encounter with Mehrangarh Fort, one of Rajasthan’s most commanding citadels, and the blue-washed quarters below. The official program may include leisure or an optional village safari before the principal sightseeing and evening event. Rejoin the train for dinner and overnight travel, with your butler attending to cabin requests.
JourneyJodhpur
04
Desert Heritage and Junagarh Fort
Arrive in Bikaner, where the itinerary balances free time or optional exploration with a visit to Junagarh Fort. Later, a desert experience and dinner may form part of the published program for the chosen departure. Exact venues and timings can vary, so Midasia reviews the final operator-issued itinerary rather than promising a fixed ceremonial element months in advance.
JourneyBikaner
05
Amber Fort and the Royal Capital
In Jaipur, visit Amber Fort and experience the city’s Rajput and Mughal architectural traditions. The official program may offer alternatives or optional activities around the main excursion. Return to the train in time for onboard hospitality. Midasia can arrange a private pre- or post-rail Jaipur stay when travelers want deeper access to Jantar Mantar, craft ateliers and the old city.
JourneyJaipur
06
Wild Country and an Imperial Dream
Begin with the scheduled Ranthambore safari in a shared park vehicle; wildlife sightings are never guaranteed and the excursion can be cool, dusty and uneven. After breakfast onboard, continue to Fatehpur Sikri for a guided exploration of Akbar’s abandoned Mughal capital. Reboard for the final night, dinner and the unhurried rituals of luxury rail travel.
JourneyRanthambore → Fatehpur Sikri
07
The Taj Mahal and a Graceful Arrival
Visit the Taj Mahal in the morning, subject to its weekly closure and operating conditions, followed by the meal and touring sequence confirmed for the departure. Return to the train for the journey to Delhi. On arrival at Safdarjung Railway Station, the Midasia team provides private onward transfer and luggage support. A post-night in Delhi is recommended before any long-haul flight.
JourneyAgra → Delhi
Best Time
Selected October–April departures.
The train operates on selected dates rather than daily. November through February is generally most comfortable for Rajasthan, though December and January can bring cold mornings and fog. Plan at least one pre-night in Mumbai and one post-night in Delhi.
Comfort Planning
Onboard facilities, cabin category, luggage space and excursion mobility requirements are checked for your selected departure. Some activities and transfers are shared. Bring comfortable shoes and seasonal layers for early outings.
